Kay Mander’s filmed survey of twenty-four square miles around Banbury in rural Oxfordshire was part of a 1943 project to better understand the use made of the countryside in order to facilitate better planning. Filmed in 1946 Twenty-Four Square Miles shows in detail the use made of the land for farming and industry and the social fabric of the towns and villages and how they are managed.
